I know for a fact that VLC or VideoLAN is the best media player that can do that without having to install any additional codecs, however, if you want to have other options, it's best to download a universal codec pack so in case VLC is in the fritz, you can use Windows Media

...MKV are all playable out of the box. Three cheers for MKV support, since thats the preferred container for high-def movie rips these days. She even decodes 1080p video, which is sorta rare for these devices. Point of fact, my iMac even has trouble decoding 1080p MKVs if I have anything other than VLC open You wont be hurting for outputs...

...MKV which no other player supports (I'm throwing that out since a lot of my videos are in MKV) The screen is huge for viewing videos and the audio can be configured. Battery life is good for video (estimated 7 hours) but audio is not so great (9 hours) though I have a feeling you can get more out of it if you lowered the brightness of the LCD...
