The IFA exhibition in Berlin is buzzing with new and exciting products. This time it’s Toshiba with their HDTV able to upscale standard video content to almost 1080p. The Regza ZF series is the most advanced TV line from them and it is rightly so. The Regza ZF TVs integrate Resolution+ technology which is nothing but cell processor algorithms for calculating waveforms of different images and combining the pixels to add more depth and vividness in the picture.

On the audio front, it has a discreet Onkyo speaker system coupled with SRS WOW and bass boost. It has 3 HDMI inputs, Component, Composite, S-Video and Side AV inputs. The video upscaler TVs will come in options of 40-inch or 46-inch. 40-inch will cost around $2400. No word on pricing of the latter.

Sony is on a roll at IFA unveiling a slew of products including the world’s thinnest LCD TV. Another notable product to be announced was the Cybershot T500 digital camera. The peculiarity of this camera is not its sleekness or looks but its capability to record Hi Definition videos. It may sound exciting but the flipside here is 10 minutes is the permissible limit to record a single clip in HD.

The camera is equipped with a 10.1 megapixel Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 5x optical zoom which can click pictures even while shooting a video. It has a 3.5-inch touch screen LCD and touching anywhere will make the camera to focus on that subject. Tapping on the face of the subject will activate Face Detection which can track up to eight faces at a time.

Users can even hook up the camera to a HD ready TV. The camera comes with a 4GB M2 card and will be available from October.

Yes, judging by the name of the device itself, it is able to juice up your iPod/iPhone within three hours (taking an equal amount of time to be fully charged at a power outlet as well), functioning as a portable speaker as well for you to share your tunes with people around. You can pick up the iPower Portable Power Station with Speaker for $44 from Brando.

Given that one of the supposedly infringing chips is the ever-present SiRF Star III, that would obviously shake things up in a pretty big way. A final decision on a ban won't come until December, however, and SiRF looks to be exploring all of its options in the meantime, including asking the U.S. Patent Office for reexamination of the contested patents. As Reuters reports though, that hasn't stopped SiRF's shares from falling 24 percent to an all time low on Tuesday, and at least one GPS device manufacturer doesn't look to be waiting around to see how things shake out either, with DigiTimes now reporting that Mitac is set to stop using SiRF chips in its GPS devices in the fourth quarter of this year. Then again, that is DigiTimes, but we doubt that'll be much consolation for SiRF right about now.

Read - Reuters, "SiRF hit after ITC judge urges product import ban"
Read - DigiTimes, "Mitac to give up SiRF GPS solutions due to patent dispute"

[Via Linux Devices]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Now that you’re semi impressed with that USB plug as the lollipop’s stick, Eye Candy does more than it meets the eye. The small dots you see on the candy are in fact an array of resonators which helps the candy to make you visualize say, a fish or a spider or anything else. This is done with the help of a technique called sensory substitution enabling to see the evocative images contained within Eye Candy.

Currently six flavours are being sold with different images ranging from motivational to relaxing to meditation. I would stack up a bunch if it allowed me to visualize what I wanted to!
