Honda Access Corporation, manufacturer of genuine Honda aftermarket parts and accessories will feature two new Modulo concept vehicles at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2009 to be held from Friday, January 9, to Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. The Sports Modulo S2000 Concept, based on the popular S2000 convertible roadster, is a sports car for connoisseurs who desire superior performance combined with a premium interior finish. The Sports Modulo Fit Concept is a compact yet sporty automobile that takes the fun, nimble driving experience of the Fit RS to an entirely new level.

The two new Modulo concept vehicle models express the new value that Sports Modulo customization has to offer. Their distinctive exterior styling features chiseled lines, while their interior design emphasizes the experience of driving an exceptional automobile. In addition to the Sports Modulo concept vehicles, Honda Access will display Life and Crossroad Styling Study Models, a Racing Modulo Civic Type R competition vehicle and a selection of other automobiles and motorcycles featuring Honda's most advanced equipment.

As our warriors move from the beachheads of SF to the trenches of LV, here's today's recap, and reminder that the <s>war</s> week is far from over:

It's been the easiest thing for everybody in the universe to say that Apple's Macworld 2009 keynote lacked not just Jobs but luster. We did feel a distinct absence of a Jobsian ZOMG hover-board-that-shoots-lightning-bolts reality distortion, a surge that is always followed by inevitable grumbling anyway. But the speech by able stand-in Phil Schiller wasn't without genuine news...

• Those who enjoy their iPhoto couldn't help marvel at the new features, including real bonafide face identification and new useful geographical organizing tools.

• People who hated last year's iMovie overhaul are now starting to realize that it might have been a necessary step in a whole new approach.

• We finally got the 17" MacBook Pro that had been projected for so long, though with a truly Apple-flavored twist: a long-lasting but non-removable battery.

• iWork got some improvements, but more importantly made its first lunge toward the cloud—for better or for worse.

• iPhone owners got the chance to impulse-buy songs directly over AT&T's 3G network (and even the EDGE network, at their own peril).

• And DRM—the reason I started buying all music from Amazon—finally got the boot, though under the condition that the four major record distributors get to charge higher prices on their tastiest licks.

It was an eventful day in the Apple-verse, even though Steve sat it out. But Macworld has come to an end (perhaps for all time), and we're already up and running at CES! [Macworld 2009; CES 2009]

It records to DV tape.

In the digital-only realm, the brand new HF S10 and S100 feature the brand new Digic DV III processor as well as a new 8.6MP CMOS sensor; the S100 captures to an SDHC card, and the S10 adds in addition 32GB of hard-wired flash storage.

The HF20 and HF200 feature the older Digic DV II chip, but add a 15x zoom lens (compared to the S10 and S100's 10x zoom) and also drop down to 3.9MP, carrying the same storage options as well. No pricing info yet to be seen for any of the new cams. Rounding out the release are a handful of SD cams, for your perusal below. Behold:

CANON U.S.A. PACKS A PUNCH WITH A POWERFUL NEW CAMCORDER LINE-UP FOR 2009
New Camcorders Offer Advanced Technology for Higher Image Quality and Easy Operation Across a Variety of Recording Formats

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., January 5, 2009 – Canon U.S.A., Inc, a leader in digital imaging technology, announces an exciting new line of five VIXIA high definition and six standard definition camcorders, which are available in a variety of different recording formats, including Flash Memory. The camcorders retain Canon's core imaging technologies, but add a wide selection of new features for enhanced image quality and added flexibility for sharing and storing memories.

Highlighting the list of new features is Canon's newest and most sophisticated image processor, DIGIC DV III. The new HD processor is featured in select VIXIA models and delivers stunning color reproduction, clarity and enhanced noise reduction. The newly upgraded processor's high-speed engine powers a variety of other new camcorder features including: 8.0 Megapixel photo capture, Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology, and an advanced Auto Exposure system.

Also new to Canon's video line-up is Video Snapshot Mode, which enables users to capture the highlights of a once in a lifetime trip, or a family milestone, with the same ease as taking photos. Consumers can now record a series of four-second video clips, and along with supplied software which includes various background music compositions, blend in background music to create an exciting movie that will hold everyone's attention.

"Canon's latest camcorder lineup features an exciting new array of advanced technologies that deliver superb image quality and easy operation," said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "These new camcorders are available in a variety of recording formats, providing consumers a camcorder choice that complements any lifestyle or situation."

VIXIA High Definition Camcorders:
All VIXIA camcorders feature Canon's trinity of core technologies that create the highest level of high definition image quality – a Genuine Canon HD Video Lens; Canon designed and manufactured HD CMOS Image Sensor for Full HD image capture; and Canon-developed DIGIC DV II and DIGIC DV III Image Processors. Additional features found on select VIXIA models include Instant AutoFocus, SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization and 24Mbps Recording - the highest bit rate in AVCHD.

The same high quality Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology used in Canon digital cameras is now available in Canon VIXIA high definition camcorders. Up to 35 faces can be detected automatically, and nine detection frames can be displayed at one time. The system is so intelligent that it will even recognize faces that are turned down or sideways. Consumers can select a face they would like the camcorder to continuously track. While in playback, consumers can access specific scenes based on chosen faces.

Canon VIXIA HF S10 and VIXIA HF S100 Flash Memory Camcorders
Canon's top-of-the-line high definition Flash Memory camcorders, the Canon VIXIA HF S10 and VIXIA HF S100, boast an impressive range of new and advanced features. The VIXIA HF S10 offers the option of recording video to a 32GB internal Flash drive or directly to an SDHC memory card, while the VIXIA HF S100 records to an SDHC memory card only. Both models feature the new DIGIC DV III Image Processor, an 8.59 Megapixel Full HD CMOS Image Sensor, Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology, an advanced Auto Exposure system and Video Snapshot and Dual Shot Modes. In addition, both models deliver stunning 8.0 Megapixel digital photographs.

Canon VIXIA HF20 and VIXIA HF200 Flash Memory Camcorders
Canon's most compact high definition Flash Memory camcorders, the VIXIA HF20 and VIXIA HF200 are powerhouse options for anyone looking to take their HD camcorder with them wherever they go. The VIXIA HF20 offers the option of recording to a 32GB internal Flash drive or SDHC card slot and the VIXIA HF200 records to an SDHC memory card only. Additional features include a 3.89 Megapixel Full HD CMOS Image Sensor, newly designed Genuine Canon 15x HD Video Lens, advanced Auto Exposure system, and Video Snapshot and Dual Shot Modes.

Canon VIXIA HV40 HDV Camcorder
The Canon VIXIA HV40 HDV Camcorder, a replacement to the highly acclaimed VIXIA HV30 camcorder, shares the core components found within the VIXIA line, but also offers a Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens and 2.96 Megapixel Full HD CMOS Image Sensor. What's more, the camcorder allows consumers to record in native 24p Mode, a feature previously found only on Canon's professional camcorders. Native 24p allows consumer to capture and record 24 progressive frames per second to a HDV tape, a big advantage for the serious filmmaker. Another add-on feature, Custom Key Mode, enables consumers to assign commonly used functions to a single button on the camcorder for easy access.

Standard Definition Camcorders:
Standard definition camcorders offer consumers the ability to capture and watch high quality video, even if they do not own a high definition television at home. All Canon standard definition camcorders come fully equipped with Canon's core expertise in optics and image processing.

Canon FS22, FS21 and FS200 Flash Memory Camcorders
The Canon FS22, FS21 and FS200 Flash Memory camcorders are ultra-sleek and compact - up to 17 percent smaller than previous FS series models. The FS22 and FS21 Dual Flash Memory camcorders incorporate 32GB and 16GB of internal Flash memory, respectively and can record video directly to an SDHC memory card. Additionally, these two models feature Genuine Canon 48x Advanced Zoom, which is great for capturing sideline action from the bleachers. The FS200 Flash Memory camcorder records video directly to an SDHC memory card and comes in three fashionable colors – Misty Silver, Sunrise Red and Evening Blue.

Canon DC420 and DC410 DVD Camcorders
The DC420 and DC410 DVD camcorders are perfect for consumers who want the convenience of recording their memories directly to DVD. The DC420 offers 48x Advanced Zoom, while the DC410 offers 41x Advanced Zoom. Both feature a DIGIC DV II Image Processor and Widescreen Recording, as well as the flexibility of optional add-on features, such as filters and lens accessories, to help achieve a designed look.

Canon ZR960 MiniDV Camcorder
For consumers who wish to record video to MiniDV, the ZR960 MiniDV camcorder is perfect. This easy-to-use option is a beginner's go-to product. While still incorporating Canon's core technologies and optics, this model provides 41x Advanced Zoom, great for capturing far-away shots, as well as a microphone terminal for better audio control. Additionally, the flexibility of add-on features, such as filters and lens accessories, help to achieve a designed look.

Fortunately, Nero has made a low-priced DVR with Liquid TV, a program that can bring actual TiVo software to a PC.

Liquid TV comes with the entire kit to turn a PC into a TiVo including the software and a one-year subscription to the service. The software even includes the Season Pass and KidZone features, something that TiVo-ites will be very familiar with.

It even comes with a figure-eight shaped remote that resembles the remotes that come with most TiVo units, as well as a USB IR receiver. The HD-compatible USB tuner is a genuine Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950Q, which is a high quality model that can access over-the-air digital signals, QAM channels, and analog channels.

So, not only can you get the TiVo experience on your PC, but it can be obtained cheaply. Believe it or not, the Nero Liquid TV is available for just $103.99. I have to admit that I sounded like some extended infomercial there, but a fully-functioning DVR for a tad over hundred dollars is a good deal in a lot of books. If someone sent you money for Christmas, this might be the item to get for yourself.

For almost as long as we've been around, we've been excited by the flurry of little amplifiers using Tripath T-Amp chips. These amps claimed to sound every bit as good as gear costing many hundreds of times more, and their simplicity invited old-school hi-fi hacking and modding. Many in the audiophile community were breathless in their praise of these mini amps, spooling off reams of positive prose. I joined the fray be doing some testing at home with some T-amp gear from Trends Audio and I found it to be an outstanding piece of music equipment.

Trends Audio just announced the new PA-10 headphone/pre-amplifier that diverges from the all solid-state designs of their previous offerings. Like their other products, the PA-10 is small and good-looking, has a simplified signal path, is made up of audiophile rated parts, but in the middle of it all is a glowing analog tube. So let's mark today as the day that we start hearing from those dedicated audiophiles who love/hate tubes, and they will string together almost innumerable adjectives to describe the rapturous quality/ghetto raspiness of this new unit before even trying it out. We're hoping to get a sample unit here at Retro Thing labs so we can share a realistic assessment of the new PA10.

I'm enthusiastic about the use of the PA-10 as a pre-amp for my turntable. The compact design of the PA-10 frees the record player from being tethered to my main stereo system. I can spin platters wherever I want to, just by using the PA-10 to drive a set of high end headphones. I've also got a lot of vinyl to digitize, and it would be great to simplify the signal path as much as possible. Having the sound make a pitstop at a tube might also make for nice sounding digital recordings.

The suggested price of the PA-10 is $225, which could be considered affordable compared to how much high end audio gear often goes for. There's no spec sheet on the website yet, but you can check out plenty of pictures of the internals showing off the audiophile rated components, and all the spots you can add your own mods and tweaks. I just want to know how they got the tube to glow blue.

Trends Audio page about the PA-10

One of the latest is the Fujitsu ST6012. I’m sure most of you are familiar with the name of Fujitsu. For those that aren’t, we have reported on this company’s products before, most recently, the Laptop4Life Program.

The Fujitsu ST6012 is a 12-inch tablet PC that comes with some very interesting features including a TFT WXGA display with indoor and outdoor wide views. It is also equipped with an integrated Intel Wi-Fi Link 5300AGN (802.11a/b/g/draft-n) as well as Bluetooth wireless.

Under the hood of the ST6012 is an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Ultra Low Voltage SU9400 and Intel Centrino 2 with Intel Pro Technology. As for the memory, it has 1GB DDR3 MHz memory, and 80GB S-ATA 150, 5400 rpm hard drive2.

As for the software, it comes with Genuine Windows Vista Business, Bonus Media with Microsoft Office OneNote 20071 and Microsoft Office Ready PC. It also includes a fingerprint sensor, embedded TPM, a Smart Card slot, as well as the Fujitsu Security Application Panel.

If that isn’t enough, the ST6012 comes with an integrated camera and wireless USB. If you are interested in this, (and how could you not be) it will cost about $1,999-2,579.

Because man cannot live on sardines alone.

From the website:
....................

Survival Kit in a Sardine Can

Sardines come packed in metal tins and even though they are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, they are still oily and kind of funky smelling.

No offense to any fans out there but we feel the metal tins could be put to much better use.

Here we have a genuine air-tight, waterproof, crushproof sardine can packed full of 25 survival items.

Go fish with the hook and line, find your way home with the compass, boil water in the can for your tea, use the first aid supplies to survive the wilderness.

Since being well prepared is half the challenge, you'll have a good head start with this kit.

Put one in your car, boat, motorcycle, fishing vest, backpack, bike, emergency kit, etc.

The kit includes one of each of the following items: non-aspirin pain reliever, adhesive bandage, alcohol prep pad, antibiotic ointment, book of matches, compass, chewing gum, sugar, salt, energy nugget, duct tape, fire starter cube, first aid instructions, fish hook & line, note paper, pencil, razor blade, safety pin, reflective signal surface, tea bag, waterproof bag, whistle, and wire clip.

Compact size is easy to carry.

Waterproof; floats in water.

Measures 4.25" x 3" x 0.9"
....................

Following recent terrorist attacks in the country, Indias Department of Telecom (DoT) instructed mobile operators to disconnect all handsets which do not have an IMEI number from January 6th of 2009....

Following recent terrorist attacks in the country, India’s Department of Telecom (DoT) instructed mobile operators to disconnect all handsets which do not have an IMEI number from January 6th of 2009. As a result, as many as 25 million mobile phones could be cut off in the “world’s largest democracy.”

The official DoT wording goes like this:

In the interest of national security, all cellular mobile service providers in unified access service licences (UASL) are hereby directed to make provisions for EIR so that calls without IMEI or with IMEI consisting of all zeroes are not processed or rejected.

However, this won’t be an easy task as it may seem. According to an unnamed senior official at a telco, there are so many combinations of non-genuine IMEI numbers that it is extremely difficult to block them. “Network upgradation is required to block all such calls and not all of our multiple equipment vendors are equipped to do it,” he/she added.
