Nintendo has gone to some lengths to keep one step ahead of the modding community, but to little avail. We've recently seen a product that enables DVD playback on the Wii, and now we've been hepped to FLATMII, a device that plugs into the Wii's drive ribbon, letting you stream ISO backups of your games (or the Gecko OS, Mplayer, emulators and more) from your Windows XP or Vista PC -- which your console now takes for its DVD drive. If you're the sort of sane and sober Wii owner who figures that it is wise and prudent to backup games that you own legally -- the kind who would never ever ever think of stealing software -- hit that read link. And be sure to catch the video after the break.

[Via Max Console]

Alright, I've got to admit, I sometimes did enjoy writing entertaining little notes or heck, even little pictures, on post-it notes, and sticking them to a friend's monitor or possessions, and then awaiting the reply. It had this odd little bit of character to it that the ever so convienient email or text message lacks.

So now, some ex-iRiver bods have got together in order to bring back the joys of postits electronically, with a device called the mintpad. It has all your ordinary MP4 player functions, including expandable memory via SD cards, but also allows the user to write little messages on it's touch screen, and beam them across they net to people all over the world.

I think it's quite neat really, but is there really demand for something like this? Unlikely...

Whatever the number is, the E-note concept from Sequoia Studio can keep those trees firmly in the ground. It uses tactile and flexible electronic paper technology, and can be stuck and unstuck easily thanks to a “Gecko” glue.

The Post-it note is one of the most popular piece of office stationery ever, but just imagine how many trees can be saved in the manufacturing process if the E-note concept was used instead? Relying on tactile and flexible electronic paper technology, the E-note can be stuck and unstuck easily thanks to a special "Gecko" glue, although we are not sure whether it will pick up grime, hair and dirt along the way to be rendered useless after some time. The E-note is powered by a solar captor, ensuring enough longevity to get your message and reminders across before it runs out of juice. What catches our fancy the most would be the inclusion of a visual alarm, an organizer and the ability to change between 8 different colors.

From the minds at Sequoia Studio, E-note is a conceptual project that explores the future of Post-its (insert legal copyright here). E-note uses tactile and flexible electronic paper technology, powered by a solar captor. E-note can be stuck, and unstuck easily using special “Gecko” glue, inspired by biomimicry. It even has a visual alarm/organizing function, changing from 1 of 8 colors. I need this on my desk NOW!

I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but the finale of the novel involves a group of monkeys gluing all of the Twits furniture to the ceiling, prompting the Twits to believe they have been turned upside down and standing on their heads until they "compress" and eventually disappear.

I was always troubled by this scene. Certainly, it is common knowledge to the 4 year old that standing on your head too long will cause your organs to compress into your brain pan, and it certainly makes sense that this would eventually cause you to blink out of existence. But what super glue could possibly hold a couch, or carpet, or grand piano to the ceiling? Impossible!

Perhaps I should have been more credulous. I should have trusted Mr. Dahl: an admirer of Gustave Flaubert, Dahl is most often grouped in the school of 20th Century Literary Realists, and is not considered an author known for his gifts of hyperbole or exaggeration. Surely, when he wrote The Twits, he was thinking of Gecko Glue, which can can support 220 pounds of weight with one square inch. It can even be scraped off and re-used.

Of course, it's not available commercially yet, but I look forward to the day it is. Several horrible, smelly older relatives will be in for a surprise.

By Jonathan Kimak

Well, there could be a stronger glue, I just don’t know about it yet. This glue, which is modeled after the sticky feet of geckos, is pretty strong stuff. 1 square inch of the stuff can support 220 pounds of weight. And since it acts like the gecko’s feet the glue can be removed and reapplied numerous times. The bottle of Coke in the picture is being supported by just 4 millimeters of the stuff.

So my thought(and yours and probably everyone else’s) was that it’s time to find that old Spiderman costume from halloween’s past and do some real wall climbing.

The glue is made from carbon nanotubes with small, curly carbon filaments on the ends that act like the little hairs in a gecko’s feet. But this glue is 10 times stronger than a gecko’s foot. And the glue can be used for non fanboy activities such as creating electronic components without the need of soldering.
