This 3-Way Digital Optical Selector Switch lets you connect up to three different optical digital components to a component with only one optical digital input. The selector allows you to switch from one component to another just by turning the selector dial no more disconnecting and connecting cables or moving equipment around. You can play any of the three components you connect and enjoy the output through your home theater system.

There are four optical digital jacks. The output jack connects to the main unit to which you would like to expand the number of optical jacks (normally a digital audio/video receiver/amplifier). The three input jacks connect to the source devices and allow you to output digital audio to your main unit. Switch easily between sources instead of disconnecting and reconnecting cables when needing to change inputs. The compact design will fit in tight areas between components.

Works with the following digital audio components: home/portable digital audio components with optical connection, MP3/CD/DVD player including Blu-ray/HD DVD, video game consoles (PS3/XBOX360), computer sound card, cable/satellite receiver to your home theater system with a digital optical input.

Operation: To hear your connected sources through your home theater system, turn on your home theater system and the audio source you want to hear. Then, press in the lock release button on the selectors dial and rotate the dial to the indicator corresponding with the source you want (1,2, or 3). A green indicator shows which of the three units is selected (only one can be selected at a time). Release the button to lock the selector in place. The sound from the selected source comes through your home entertainment systems speakers.

Customer Review: Works Great!

I purchased this switch to allow me to use the single optical output from my dvd player to feed both my headphone setup, and my surround sound speakers. I tried several other products, and none worked well. I almost gave up on a good optical splitter, until I found the Nyrius SW100. This product works very well. Basically, it will allow you to either split a single source and send it to up to 3 different receivers (e.g. headphone dac/amp, surround sound receiver, computer) OR feed a single receiver with three different sources (e.g. Playstation 3, DVD player, laptop digital audio out).
It's inexpensive, feels well made, and works without a hitch.
Also note that this product does not require a power supply.

Customer Review: This is a great item!!

Like most of the other reviews we had the same problems switching... In our case we have 3 inputs that needed to be ran thru our JVC HD 7.1 system... We leave everything on DVD input on the amp and just flip the switch for our other inputs....
This unit is better than the others that are out on the market!! GET IT!!

LG announced the debut of six world’s first TV technologies at 2009 Consumer Electronics Show. LG aims to build its market share to become the second largest maker of flat panel TVs in 2009, supported by six world’s first LCD TV technologies - slim LED-backlight, wireless 1080p, TruMotion 240Hz, fastest response time, networking and energy saving – to complement its leadership in TV designs.

LG has incorporated eco-friendly features in all of its newest TVs, making it a core identity of LG’s sets. LG’s Intelligent Sensor II Technology in particular reduces power consumption by a maximum of 73 percent compared to older models of the same size, and helps produce a picture that minimizes eye strain and fatigue during extended viewing.

SEOUL, Jan. 8, 2009 -- LG Electronics, a major player in the global flat panel display market, announced the debut of six world’s first TV technologies at 2009 Consumer Electronics Show.

More Natural, Convenient and Eco-friendly LCD TV Technologies

LG unveiled at 2009 CES the world’s slimmest LED-backlit TV with local dimming technology. This leading-edge LED technology incorporated into the LG’s LH90 series (LH90 and LHX) enables an extremely slim design. In its LHX line, LG was able to keep the set incredibly slim, at 24.8mm, by using silicone lenses to amplify the light, while simultaneously increasing the backlight’s quality. In addition, LG’s premium LH90 series is the perfect combination of a sleek exterior with unmatched picture quality, a masterpiece of visual entertainment.

In contrast to the industry average of 300 to 400 LEDs for a TV set, LG employs between 1,000 and 1,500 LEDs in its backlights, depending on screen size. This unique technology allows LG to divide the TV screen into 240 different sections that can be individually adjusted to create clearer and more natural images, even when bright light and deep shades appear on-screen together.

“There is nothing else like this on the market,” said Havis Kwon, Head of LCD TV Business of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “The LH90 series HDTVs are conceived as one-of-a-kind sets, beyond ordinary TV technology. Discerning consumers will instantly recognize the difference in watching our LH90 and LHX sets; no other television will look the same after experiencing them.”

What makes the LHX series even better is that there is no clutter of cables to distract the viewer, thanks to LG’s world first wireless 1080p Full HD TV technology. In LG’s premium LHX and LH85, the company’s wireless technology delivers completely uncompressed, 1080p “Full HD” picture quality. There is only a single power cord that plugs directly into the TV – all of the rest, from DVD players to game consoles and set-top boxes are attached to a separate unit that can be placed up to 30 feet away from the TV and still wirelessly transmit perfect picture quality.

“Consumers don’t need to sacrifice picture quality for more convenience,” said Mr. Kwon. “The LHX and LH85 play the latest Blu-ray discs and video games at the highest quality with LG’s outstanding wireless 1080p Full HD TV technology, because we want our consumers to be absolutely satisfied with every aspect of the TV viewing experience.”

Stylish design and utmost convenience are complemented by the world’s first 240Hz LED-scanning technology which creates crystal clear images with natural movement. LG’s TruMotion 240Hz technology eliminates motion blur using backlight control technology, instead of covering it by inserting interpolation data as other sets do. Combined with LG’s advanced Super IPS panels, this unique 240Hz technology helps LG achieve the world’s fastest response time on LCD TV at a mere 2 millisecond, which is how watching content on the LG LH90 series (LH90 and LHX) and LH55 make consumers feel as if the action were unfolding right inside their living room. Even better, the entire high-quality experience comes with lower power consumption and reduced heat and electromagnetic interference (EMI), thanks to LG’s TruMotion 240Hz technology.

Not only is LG delivering superb picture quality to its consumers, but its efforts also extend to providing them with the most diverse and open TV viewing experience. This is now made by possible via its world’s first collaboration with major web portal Yahoo!, the first partnership of its kind in the world. LG’s innovative broadband technologies offer the ultimate in TV entertainment. The included Yahoo! Widget service offers basic information, such as weather, finance, news and Flickr photos. LG also provides direct YouTube access and Netflix Instant Streaming service. With these features, high-speed internet users will be only a 30-second download away from a selection of more than 12,000 movies.

The ultimate entertainment experience LG presents comes with more energy savings with the world’s lowest power consumption. The LG LH30, equipped with an energy saving LCD screen, uses up to 80 percent less power than other LCD TVs. Its stand-by energy consumption is just about zero, meaning less nighttime or standby power leakage.

In addition, LG has incorporated eco-friendly features in all of its newest TVs, making it a core identity of LG’s sets. LG’s Intelligent Sensor II Technology in particular reduces power consumption by a maximum of 73 percent compared to older models of the same size, and helps produce a picture that minimizes eye strain and fatigue during extended viewing. Although LG TVs consume less energy, their fine picture quality and pleasant viewing experience are by no means compromised. The Intelligent Sensor II dims the backlight whenever possible to accommodate the surrounding environment, ultimately providing audiences with the finest picture quality at a lower cost.

Advanced Technologies, Beautifully Hidden

“We do not solely go after the top quality technologies,” said Mr. Kwon. “LG promotes advanced technologies beautifully hidden in its entire models, because we consider the best viewing experience to come with beautiful design and healthier viewing.”

LG’s 2009 line-up provides the perfect balance of aesthetics and high technology, providing the world with the optimal TV viewing experience. With its five world’s first technologies, beautifully hidden in all of its models, LG looks forward to growing throughout the year as a profitable and successful electronics manufacturer, and reaffirming once again its leadership in the industry.

Telenav is going to be powering Ford's Sync system with voice actiated navigation, traffic feeds from Inrix, hands free calling and music access, audible text messages, and 911 assist. This is interesting as Ford has had a long standing relationship with Garmin for featuring GPS units with vehicles.

Inrix is bringing their "A" game to the party packing a new "alerting Service" allowing you to get personalized traffic alerts delivered to your car - pretty interesting to see how this might interface with the navigation system. I mean really - does Spock and Scottie come bundled in the Sync system too? "But Captain, there's a traffic jam ahead. Use the next exit and hit warp speed."

Telenav & Inrix Press Release Below......

Ford Motor Company Selects TeleNav to Power In-Car GPS Navigation

TeleNav-powered Ford SYNC™ with Traffic, Directions and Information

scheduled to be available in Ford vehicles later this year

LAS VEGAS - January 8, 2009 - TeleNav, Inc., the largest wireless navigation services provider in North America, announced today that Ford Motor Company will use TeleNav's GPS navigation software in the newest version of Ford's in-car connectivity system, SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information. With this new version, users now have hands-free access to personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn driving directions, and up-to-date information such as business listings, news, sports and weather.

"Connected navigation is a natural next step for SYNC," said Doug VanDagens, Director of the Connected Services Organization at Ford Motor Company. "TeleNav is a partner that brings a reputation for innovative, reliable and user-friendly GPS navigation solutions for mobile devices."

Introduced initially in the fall of 2007, SYNC provides customers the convenience and flexibility to bring Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones into their vehicles and operate various devices and services via voice commands. SYNC offers hands-free calling, hands-free digital music access, audible text messaging, 911 Assist and Vehicle Health report. Vehicles with SYNC are compatible with most Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and consumers can use any compatible cell phone with any compatible vehicle.

SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information will expand this feature set to include voice-activated GPS navigation. Unlike other GPS navigation systems currently available in cars, SYNC will provide consumers the ability to access turn-by-turn voice and in-dash driving directions, just by syncing their Bluetooth-enabled cell phones with SYNC-compatible Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicles.

"Ford leads the automotive world in demonstrating how advanced connected navigation can be integrated into a variety of vehicles," said HP Jin, president, CEO and co-founder of TeleNav. "Whether customers are using SYNC for their daily commutes or while driving across the country, Ford offers a navigation experience that is simple to use and connected to the information they need. TeleNav is thrilled to help Ford deliver this experience."

Once paired, SYNC will allow customers the option of using voice commands to speak in destinations (addresses), providing a hands-free interface. After the destination is entered, traffic-optimized turn-by-turn directions will appear on the radio face plate and audio directions will be provided through the vehicle's speaker system. Audio and in-dash directions include street names and if drivers miss a turn, they will be provided with an option to receive an updated route.

SYNC is available on several Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars and trucks. For more information on SYNC, please visit www.syncmyride.com.

**********************
INRIX announced today that it has been selected by the Ford Motor Company to enable the new Ford SYNCTM with Traffic, Directions and Information (announced by Ford separately on January 7th) featuring personalized driving content and technology from INRIX Connected Services. The new Ford SYNC is the latest version of the award winning fully-integrated, voice activated in-car communication and entertainment system for your mobile phone and digital music player. New Ford car and truck owners will benefit from the latest generation Ford SYNC in-car connectivity platform with personalized voice-enabled traffic reports, traffic-influenced turn-by-turn directions, and traffic alerts provided to Ford, exclusively from INRIX. SYNC with Traffic Directions and Information will be demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week and will be available in the Spring of 2009.

Using integrated GPS technology, Ford SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information connects consumers to personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn directions, business search, news, sports and weather. INRIX has also developed and is hosting components of the Web site for Ford SYNC users at www.syncmyride.com, where users can input preferences such as routing destinations and alert requests to further personalize their Ford SYNC experience.

"In SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information, we're bringing to life the vision for the ultimate in-car experience that integrates best-in-class technology into the vehicle in a useful way. The personalized traffic, directions, content and alerts that INRIX provides are critical to delivering on that vision," said Doug VanDagens, Director, Ford Connected Services Organization, Ford Motor Company. "We collaborated closely on the design and development of their connected services platform to meet Ford's requirements."

INRIX Connected Services enhances the SYNC experience with:

    * The introduction of the world's first 3rd Generation Routing Engine which uses both real-time and predictive traffic information to deliver true time-intelligent, traffic-influenced directions, taking the driving experience to a new level through smart routing and traffic congestion avoidance.
* The nation's broadest coverage and most accurate real-time traffic information leveraging the INRIX Traffic Fusion engine which intelligently blends real-time data from nearly a million GPS-enabled taxis, service vehicles, airport shuttle services and other commercial vehicles as well as consumer cellular GPS-based devices and traditional road sensor information.
* INRIX Total Fusion Traffic which provides speed information on more than 800,000 miles of roadways, including busy city streets and arterials, in addition to freeways and highways across the U.S.
* The new INRIX Alerting service which allows users to receive personalized traffic alerts delivered in the car via Web and voice-enabled user configuration.
* New location-aware, consumer-friendly access to traffic information, allowing SYNC users to get answers to questions such as "Traffic Ahead," "Fastest Route Home," and "Traffic Around Me," leveraging the new integrated GPS feature in new vehicles shipping with Ford SYNC.

"We are proud to partner with Ford to provide innovative solutions for the latest-generation of SYNC," commented Bryan Mistele, president and CEO of INRIX. "Ford is at the forefront of enabling two-way connectivity in the car and together with INRIX Connected Services, we will continue to ease commutes and improve the driving experience all over the country, one car at a time."

Ford SYNC owners will have access to a variety of features that leverage traffic and navigation in their everyday life. Via a simple button click, drivers will have instant voice access in SYNC-enabled cars to receive personalized location-relevant traffic information, traffic conditions along their most frequented routes and traffic-optimized directions along less familiar routes. Using the intuitive SYNC voice interface, a driver can get answers to questions like "what is traffic like between here and Las Vegas?" and "what is the fastest route to work right now?" On Syncmyride.com, Ford owners can also easily set up customized alerts for triggering real-time and predictive traffic reports sent via SMS messages to their phones.

"With SYNC, Ford is once again delivering a compelling technology breakthrough that showcases how auto OEMs can successfully differentiate to win in today's economy," said Phil Magney, vice president, automotive practice, iSuppli Corporation. "Tapping into SYNC's unique approach to two-way connectivity, INRIX adds tremendous value to the in-car experience for Ford with its industry-leading traffic and directions."

I wasn't let down: Palm announced its newest smartphone, the Palm Pre, with soft lines and a gorgeous OS.

The new phone has a multitouch touch screen, full Internet browser, slides out to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, but the best part — and what actually sets it apart from the iPhones, the BlackBerrys, the Androids — is the wireless charger, the "Touchstone."

No pricing has been revealed yet, but the phone should be available in the early part of this year; if the Pre also comes with competitive pricing (around $200), then look for this to be a worthy rival in the smartphone game.

It’s the first game controller to have one, according to the company. It can be used either straight up like a Wiimote or folded into a rough gun/boomerang shape. It’s interesting, that’s for sure and is likely giving the big N some ideas on future Wiimotes.

The controller is dubbed the CYWEE Z. It will be shown off at CES, but it seems that no one is sure whether or not the company’s game console will be there as well. making the trip as well. This might be an interesting one to watch.

The second product CyWee is showing is called CyWee X, which is a wireless solution that streams real-time content without delay from your PC to your big screen TV in 1080p resolution. CyWee X uses 802.11n as underlying technology.

Gamers have largely gotten a bad rep for being lazy, slothful people who spend their hours mindlessly pressing buttons. The Wii changed that a bit by getting kids (and their parents... and their parents) up off the couch, but what about giving their brains a workout too? For your family's little mind freak to-be Mattel is introducing the Mind Flex, a brain-powered game that relies on your mental activity to control the height of a ball suspended in a column of air. Don the headset then start concentrating to make the purple orb rise; relax and it lowers. There are six total game types but all entail getting a ball over, under, and through a variety of hoops and the like, sometimes against a clock so that you can challenge your friends. Sadly you have to actually reach up and turn the dial to move the ball around the course, but in our heads on trial we found the thing to be impressively responsive, gently sinking down when we thought about getting some sleep -- then shooting back up again when we pondered the number of posts left to write tonight. It was challenging for sure, and definitely turned a lot of heads, but we're a little concerned that extended sessions could be headache inducing. Its $80 price tag might cause some temple pain too when the thing releases this fall, but we've certainly spent more money on things that were less fun -- and mentally stimulating.
Mio is re-doing the line of GPS navigators and it sounds like they have a pretty intriguing line-up, definitely upping the ante on the GPS game, as they are running a new interface too, dubbed the "Mio Spirit". The operating system and new interface has been in development for over 2 years, and includes a lot of shortcuts and capabilities to make navigating the device a lot easier. The new Mio units will be powered by TeleAtlas maps. Of note, the Moov S300 starts with 12 Million POI!; and the Moov S700 is a 7-inch display. The four new units are:

Mio Moov S300 - features a 3.5 inch display, preloaded with maps of the U.S. and Canada. It has Text-to-Speech voice direction in English, Spanish and French and more than 12 million points of interest.

Mio Moov S500 - a 4.7-inch model with all the functionality of the S300.

Mio Moov S556 (shown above) - a premium model with a stylish, ultra-flat 4.7-inch display. It includes the aforementioned functionality with the addition of Bluetooth® for hands-free calling and "Junction View," a feature that aids motorists in complex traffic intersections.

Mio Moov S700 - has a mammoth 7-inch display and is perfect for RV's and campers. It also includes MAD Maps content for travelers who are looking for preloaded scenic routes and a unique journey. The device includes features such as preloaded maps of the U.S. and Canada, Text-to-Speech in English, Spanish and French, and more than 12 million points of interest.

The line goes along with Mio's strategy of attacking the low and and the high end of the market with a more complete offering. Smart move if they can compete up there with their product line. It will be interesting to see how they handle the Magellan branding on items since their purchase of the company.

Mio Technology Gives Navigation a New "Spirit"

~ Cutting-edge software improves user experience with intuitive, fast interface ~

LAS VEGAS - Jan. 8, 2009 - Mio Technology announced that its "Mio Spirit" navigation software will be the new software platform for Mio's North American product line. Being shown at CES 2009, the software is fast and easy to use, and enables users to get the most out of their GPS devices. The interface features uncluttered map views, simple point of interest searches and fewer clicks to reach information vital to the navigation experience.

"Mio Spirit is a breakthrough in current navigation software design," said Samuel Wang, president, Mio Technology. "By simplifying the navigation device's interface, users can save time and effort during their travel."

Mio Spirit is the latest evolution of Mio's software development capabilities. Devices using the Mio Spirit navigation software will have Text-to-Speech, a more intuitive POI menu - called "Explore Mode" - and optional real-time traffic capabilities. Customer feedback demanded more flexibility when searching for POIs near their current location, destination or along a planned route, and Mio Spirit software delivers all these capabilities. It also makes more information available with fewer clicks on the navigation menu - Mio has increased the navigation options and POI data that can be viewed without clicking through multiple layers of menus.

"Mobile phone and MP3 industry players have already launched products that maximize the latest in touch screen interfaces for an intuitive experience, and the Mio Spirit introduction moves the portable navigation device into the most progressive class of technology and usability," said Jerry Barbera, vice president of sales and marketing, Mio Technology USA. "Mio Spirit navigation software has been in development for more than two years, using insight from consumer electronics users of all ages. Many said that GPS devices focus only on going from place-to-place - this software incorporates more functions, more simply, and helps users capitalize on what's possible along the way."

Mio Spirit offers a user-friendly keyword search function that makes it easier to find a POI. Instead of having to spell out the exact name of a restaurant, a user can enter a portion of a name, such as "café," and access all nearby POIs with "café" in the name. Mio Spirit software also includes an easy-to-use "slide-screen" function - users can pull up a POI screen, for example, and simply slide it out of view while looking at additional POI screens or a map. A capture button lets users record favorite routes, locations and voice memos during a trip.

Mio Spirit has already been introduced on Mio/Navman devices in various locations in Asia and Europe, and now, all new Mio products launched in North America will ship with the software. Mio will continue to support the MioMap 2008 software that is on the Moov family of devices and provide map data updates for its Moov products.

Mio Technology has put itself in the GPS driver's seat at CES 2009, announcing new portable navigation devices (PNDs), an improved software platform for Mio's next North American product offerings and additions to its executive marketing team.

"2009 is going to be a watershed year for Mio," said Jerry Barbera, vice president of sales and marketing, Mio Technology USA. "We've put together an impressive combination of hardware and software - combined with new leadership and strategy that will make us stand out in the market."

Mio will bring four new PNDs to market in the first half of 2009. The stylish devices span the full range from entry-level to premium and are all packed with easy-to-use features.

New PNDS

The four new PNDs in the Mio Moov line are:

· Mio Moov S300 - features a 3.5 inch display, preloaded with maps of the U.S. and Canada. It has Text-to-Speech voice direction in English, Spanish and French and more than 12 million points of interest. The device has an MSRP of $199.99.

· Mio Moov S500 - a 4.7-inch model with all the functionality of the S300. It has an MSRP of $249.99.

· Mio Moov S556 - a premium model with a stylish, ultra-flat 4.7-inch display. It includes the aforementioned functionality with the addition of Bluetooth® for hands-free calling and "Junction View," a feature that aids motorists in complex traffic intersections. The device has an MSRP of $299.99.

· Mio Moov S700 - has a mammoth 7-inch display and is perfect for RV's and campers. It also includes MAD Maps content for travelers who are looking for preloaded scenic routes and a unique journey. The device includes features such as preloaded maps of the U.S. and Canada, Text-to-Speech in English, Spanish and French, and more than 12 million points of interest. The device has an MSRP of $299.99.

New Interface

All of the devices come preloaded with Mio "Spirit" navigation software, which offers fast, easy-to-use search and navigation that enables users to get the most out of their GPS devices. The interface features uncluttered map views, faster POI searches and fewer clicks to reach the information vital to the navigation experience.

Mio Spirit is the latest evolution of the company's navigation software development capabilities. Ongoing customer feedback demanded more flexibility and quicker access when searching for POI's near their current location, their destination, or along their planned route and Mio Spirit delivers all of these capabilities. Mio has increased the navigation options and POI data, including 12 million points of interest preloaded.

New Executive and Strategy

In addition to new software and hardware, Mio has a new executive to drive the company forward in 2009. Jerry Barbera serves as the new Sales and Marketing Vice President. He is executing Mio's new product strategy - to reposition the family of personal navigation devices to be more in-line with how consumer electronics products go to market, to address the needs of entry-level customers and also be attractive at the top end of the line to high-end customers.
