Casio just unveiled its new Dynamic Photos technology. It lets you cut out video of yourself from the background, placing it elsewhere. Get ready for a slew of horrible green screen videos on YouTube.

You basically just take a video and then take a still shot of the background. The camera then is able to cut the subject out of the background and place it on any other background you'd like. At the press conference they demonstrated the function against a perfectly white background, which obviously produced very clean results, but who knows how well it'll work against a less uniform background. But really, it's a pretty easy way to do pretty basic green screen work without even dumping the video out of your camera.

Dynamic Photos will be available in the upcoming EX-FC100. I weep for how this will be used in the future.

Four more compact cameras from Casio: EX-Z400, EX-Z270, EX-S12, and "sleek and sturdy" EX-S5. The top end of these lower-end shooters is the Z400 (pictured above) which features a wide-angle 28mm, 4x optical zoom, 3.0-inch LCD, CCD-shift anti-shake, and 550-shot battery. The Z270 drops the LCD down to 2.7-inches while the 12.1 megapixel S12 drops the zoom to 3x. Bringing up the rear is the 10.1 megapixel EX-S5 with YouTube capture mode for those who want (or need, frankly) to keep it simple. Sorry no 30fps burst or super slow mo' in this lot. Prices will range from $300 for the Z400 on down to $180 for the S5 when these pop for retail in March.

Gallery: Casio outs Exilim EX-Z400, EX-Z270, EX-S12, and EX-S5 shooters

Casio outs Exilim EX-Z400, EX-Z270, EX-S12, and EX-S5 shooters originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 13:57:00 EST.
Casio knows a thing or two about high-speed image capture as demonstrated over the last year and half . Now they've squashed that innovative circuitry and imaging technology into compact cameras...

Casio knows a thing or two about high-speed image capture as demonstrated over the last year and half. Now they've squashed that innovative circuitry and imaging technology into compact cameras offering high-speed 30 shots-per-second, 6 megapixel still image burst rates and high-speed movies at up to 1,000 fps. Amazingly, Casio's 9.1 megapixel EX-FS10 does this in a 16.3-mm thin compact shooter with a not so amazing 2.5-inch LCD and 3x zoom lacking any kind of optical image or sensor stabilization. The 9.1 megapixel EX-FC100 is larger thanks to a 5x zoom, 2.7-inch LCD and CMOS anti-shake technology -- yet it's still small enough to easily fit in the palm of your hand unlike Casio's other fast bursting cams. These compacts will (attempt to) automatically select only the best image (no blur, eyes opened, subject smiling) captured in high-speed burst mode or slow things down on the viewer so that you can select the best image yourself. HD movies? Yup, that too in a 720p pixel resolution. Of course you also get that goofy ability to insert moving subjects into static images. The EX-FS10 should hit by March for $350 in blue, gray, red and white while the EX-FC100 will roll out in gray and white for $400.

Gallery: Casio's EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 compacts burst faster than DSLRs

Casio's EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 compacts burst faster than your DSLR originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 13:57:00 EST.
[CES 2009] Casio has introduced a couple of digital cameras from its EXILIM line that features reduced circuitry size as well as image sensor units, turning them into extremely small point-and-shoot cameras that ought to be a joy to tote around if you are a casual shutterbug. Both models will feature high-speed 30 shot-per-second burst rate as well as the ability to record movies at a maximum frame rate of 1,000 fps - that's certainly unheard of for an entry level digital camera of today. The EX-FS10 is card-sized and measures no more than 0.64", while the EX-FC100 will fit snugly into your palm - we wonder whether smaller Asian palms are the benchmark here. Both models will be out this March, with the EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 retailing for $349.99 and $399.99, respectively.

[CES 2009] All three Casio Exilim models above will feature the high-speed image processing abilities of Casio latest EXILIM Engine 4.0, and we're particularly interested in the new Dynamic Photo function that enables the photographer make immediate image edits on-the-fly in a particularly striking manner - one can cut out the main subject of interest in a captured image and merge it with another image to form the background, giving you the opportunity to perform visual surgery like how North Korea does with its propaganda images. Not only that, users are able to cut and paste several rapid-succession images so that a moving subject can be superimposed onto a still background. Casio has specially set up a website to demonstrate the many creative ways one can utilize its Dynamic Photo function. The Casio EXILIM EX- Z400, EX-Z270, and EX-S12 will retail for $299.99, $229.99 and $249.99, respectively, when they arrive this March.

[CES 2009] Very little is known about the Casio EXILIM EX-S5 digital camera other than the fact that it comes with a compact body based on a new design concept, and is meant to turn high-quality photographic functionality into a simple experience. The EXILIM EX-S5 will be out this March for $179.99, coming in a bevy of colors including blue, black, gold, silver, pink and purple. Guess this is another point-and-shoot for the masses, so those with a more serious slant towards photography will want to give this a miss.

It sports 2GB of storage, and a low price point ($50-75).

The design looks a little too cutesy with the heart shape and all. It’s basically a sleek wrap around earphone that has magnetic connectors on each end to keep it bound together when not in use. That’s what forms the shape. What you see is the entire player. The earphones are 13.5mm EX quality, and currently supported codecs include MP3, AAC, WMA (w/ DRM) and PCM.

Word is it has incredible battery life and a very minimal charging requirement. Three minutes equals a ninety minute charge, while thirty minutes will let you listen to music for the suggested twelve hour continuous playback. And Sony’s included ZAPPIN technology continues to play a series of short music clips from your own music library until you can find your favorite song to match your mood.

Sony’s Walkman NWZ-X1000 is a real looker. It features an OLED touchscreen, Wi-Fi and built-in noise cancellation and once again make the brand the world’s music player of choice, assuming the price is right. Like the iPod Touch, it comes in 16GB and 32GB and can be used to surf the web. The OLED screen’s a half inch smaller, so the colors should be brighter with better contrast.

It also comes with digital noise canceling, which is interesting. The feature, allows your 13.5mm EX headphone to block out ambient noise. It’s got all the right specs, but the price may be it’s downfall. If typical Sony pricing applies, this won’t compete with the iPod Touch.

It would need to come in at under $400. We’ll see. It’s a sweet MP3 player.
