As CES rolls on there’s a lot of news in the smartphone world. One nice bit has to do with a little company called HTC and the upcoming US availability of the HTC S743. The S743 is a neat little handset that looks like sleek candy-bar phone with a 12-key front keypad but also sports a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and some nice power under the hood.

The S743 is a non-touch screen device that offers the benefit of both a more traditional user interface and a full QWERTY keyboard. It has the, now familiar, faceted design first implemented on the HTC Touch Diamond. While it is just 1.7 inches wide and weighs a mere 4.9 ounces, it still has a large 2.4 inch QVGA display and packs a whole lot of power. As a US-release, it supports high-speed HSDPA (850/1900 MHz) networks and runs Windows Mobile 6.1.

The S743 might look familiar from this shot of Judie’s CES: Getting Ready post. Yup, that’s Judie’s S740 (the European variant of the new S743) getting ready for the trip while some “other” phone gets left behind. I’m pretty darn happy with my current handset but the rave reviews from Judie… they sure have piqued my interest in this small, but powerful, handset.

The S743 will be available through select retail channels, including dell.com and cdw.com, during the first quarter of 2009.

Another high quality image after the break. … [visit site to read more]

Navigon is going to let you pimp out your existing Navigon ride with some software extras that are designed to extend your current units so that they grow with you and help you out when you get in a pinch. The new software (which you need to pay for) includes:

Red Light Camera Locations - yes they are in the US, and you may just get a picture in the mail wit your car going through a red light and a nice citation. This comes as a subscription.

Euro Maps - expand your US Navigon to handle Europe for that big trip you have planned.

North American Expansion Pack - Only have the US Maps? Get Canada too.

3-D Buildings - cool to drive by and now your GPS can feature over 600 rendered buildings (seems kindof low, eh?)

Expanded POI - Missing businesses, or whole strip malls; the expanded POI set should help to get more detail and fresher content on your unit.

It seems like Navigon is taking the approach that they realize that people are hurting and don't want to go and buy a whole new GPS; thus the minor software upgrade. Yea, the things cost money, but I guess they need to make a buck too.

All available for various prices; timing this spring.

Full Press Release after the jump.......

Continuing in its tradition of being the category innovator, NAVIGON, today announced a greatly expanded pool of new content for its GPS navigators that will be available for download this spring. These content downloads include Red Light Camera Data, Rand McNally Scenic Routes and City Guides, a European Map, 3D Landmarks, a North American Expansion Pack and Extended POI's. Users can purchase the content on NAVIGON's Web shop. They then can manage and update their content using NAVIGON's free online software platform, NAVIGON Fresh. It automatically synchronizes Personal Computers with NAVIGON GPS devices via a USB connection, providing an easy-access platform to update and augment content.

"Our NAVIGON Fresh platform provides our customers with easy access to a number of the innovative features we have developed and provides them with options to tailor their navigation experience to their needs," said Michael Roach, NAVIGON's president for the Americas. "The availability of these new features, such as Red Light Cameras, Rand McNally content and a European map continues our tradition of providing features that are relevant to the navigation experience."

The following new NAVIGON Fresh content will be available this spring:

Thousands of traffic camera locations across the country

One year subscription

Monthly database updates to stay current with new installations

National Coverage. More than 1400 cities with coverage in all 50 US states and Canada.

North American NAVIGON owners can now travel in Europe with their NAVIGON GPS device. With the simple insertion of a Micro SD card, NAVIGON owners can navigate millions of miles of roads in 38 European countries complete with speed limits, sign postings and millions of POIs.
More than 4.5 million miles of roads

Millions of points of interest (POIs) in more than 50 categories

NAVIGON's North American Expansion Pack gives users a full North America map as well as the most current software for their device. Users who purchase this content will have their devices upgraded to NAVIGON's new state-of-the-art software. The estimated MSRP is $49.99.

As if a partnership with Rand McNally wasn't enough, Navigon's giving prospective buyers even more reason to hand over a pinch of their savings. All of the new material will be hosted on the company's Fresh platform, and pricing ranges from $19.99 for each Rand McNally guide to $129.99 for European maps on North American PNDs.
So far at CES we have been hearing nothing but pocket projectors. Fortunately, DreamVision has broken that trend with the announcement of their latest home theater projector, the Dream’E. We heard about the Dream’E last month when it was announced, but DreamVision has decided to finally release this model. The Dream’E features 1200 ANSI lumens, a 15000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. This model follows in its predecessors’ footsteps and comes in a sleek but bulky chassis that measures 20.9″ x 7.8″ x 22.7″ (W x D x H). The Dream’E also comes with dual HDMI inputs as well as a composite, component, s-video, and a RGB connection. This model runs very quietly, with a 20 dB noise level, which assures that the projector will not distract the viewers from the movie. According to Daniel Jacques, founder and president of Audio Plus Services, “What sets DreamVision apart is their unique blend of latest display technologies with high quality materials, attention to detail and striking European design. The result is astonishing, especially for a DreamVision projector at such an affordable price point. Dream’E clearly represents one of the best values in video today.” You can see DreamVision at CES in Las Vegas at booth 28128. The Dream’E is available through the company’s website and retails for about $5295.

If you’ve been waiting to see the Kogan Agora Pro running Android in an actual demo, your wait is over. The folks at Kogan (well ok, they’re PR agency) have been distributing the video above to show the device running Android without a hitch. Check out the shiny metal frame/bezel around the display. Man that thing is reflective… Could be a tad annoying? Nothing more than a minor annoyance I’m sure. The device does look pretty solid. Expect more news on the Agora and Agora Pro from Kogan from CES. Will and Simon will be all over it!

Note: I’m used to seeing ‘Mr. Blurrycam’… But in this case we can see it must be one of his cohorts holding the camera. I think it’s ‘Mr. Blurryvideocam’. I think they’re cousins.
