No matter what they do, the new Polaroid PoGo Instant digicam will never have the magic nature, heartwarming charm, and craptastic retro quality of their good old Instamatics. But they are kind of cool, anyway.

Sure, the new Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Camera can print 2 x 3-inch photos in 60 seconds. That's moreless what it took for the Instamatic images to appear. And like the Instamatic, the PoGo doesn't use ink for the images, and can print with and without "fun" borders in sticky-backed paper. It's also smaller than the Instamatic, at 10 ounces and 4.7 inches wide by 3 inches tall. And you can review the images before printing them out.

OK, so it's more convenient and probably has better quality. But still, no analog charm (hopefully, they will add an Instamatic filter mode at one point).

Polaroid Introduces the Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Digital Camera

Digital version of the company's iconic instant camera

LAS VEGAS (January 8, 2009) – Today Polaroid announces the launch of the Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Digital Camera, the first digital camera and instant printer combination available in the US and Europe that is portable enough to take anywhere. With the push of a button, consumers can select from among the digital photos on the camera, crop or edit them and in less than 60 seconds, print full-color, 2x3-inch prints - all with a single device.

"This is the digital version of our traditional instant camera, which consumers have loved since the 70s," says Jon Pollock, vice president and general manager, Digital Imaging. "With this product, Polaroid will bring the magic of instant photography to a whole new generation. It's what consumers have told us they want – a fun, easy way to use a digital camera to print photos and share their memories instantly."

The Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Digital Camera is the second product in the Polaroid PoGo™ family of products. Like the Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Mobile Printer, which hit store shelves in July 2008, the Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Digital Camera uses the same ZINK Paper™ and ZINK™ Zero Ink™ Printing Technology from ZINK Imaging. ZINK is an ink-free printing technology which replaces ink cartridges or ribbons with ZINK Paper™ - a composite material that has embedded, heat-activated dye crystals. Before printing, ZINK Paper appears white like regular photo paper. Once the pictures are printed, they are immediately dry to the touch, durable and smudge and water resistant.

The Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Digital Camera offers a full-feature digital camera with 100 percent inkless printing, 2x3-inch sticky-backed photos with or without fun borders and the advantage of reviewing the captured photos on a three-inch color LCD screen before printing. The instant digital camera measures 4.7-inches wide by 3-inches tall and weighs only 10 ounces.

"Unlike traditional instant film, photos from the Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Digital Camera emerge fully developed," Pollock says. "While many of our most passionate customers tell us "shaking" a Polaroid photo is part of the fun, with any Polaroid photo, the "shake" is totally optional."

The Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Digital Camera will be available beginning in March 2009 at major retailers for a suggested retail price of $199. Ten-packs of ZINK Photo Paper™, which can be used in both the Instant Digital Camera and the Instant Mobile Printer, retail for $4.99 and 30-packs for $12.99, and widely available at national retailers everywhere.

[Polaroid]

Deviantartist sadwonderland went and made a steampunk styled wristwatch. While it doesn't look super steampunky, I still like the style. Hell, I'd wear it if I was a woman. Or, haha, home alone with the door locked and shades pulled tight. I'm not kidding.

This is a fancy steampunk-style wristwatch, fully functioning, with a new battery in it all ready to go!

A pair of angelic wings and decorative clock cogs frame the timepiece, and a charm chain hangs below, carrying a cog and a small victorian heart.

Perfect for costuming or fancy time-travel parties!

I'm digging those wings. And you know what they say -- time flies when you're wearing a steampunk watch! What do you mean they don't say that? Well what do they say? Toy boat ten times fast? Fine! Toy boat, toy boat, toy boat, toy boat, toy boyt, toy boyt, toyboyt, toyboyt, toyboyt, toyboyt! Oh, now everyone in the coffee shop is looking at me funny. Fuck you, people, I'm a blogger damnit!

Socket Sense is an innovative and elegant solution to a nagging problem in our gadget world, “big” AC power adapters.

Does it work?

I got a chance to put the Socket Sense to test. Underneath my desk, I have a ton of AC adapters. I needed 2 power strips to accommodate all my AC adapters. With the Socket Sense sockets expanded, I was able to fit all my AC adapters onto the Socket Sense power strip.

As you can see, I have the power strip fully expanded and the sockets ingeniously align in a diagonal position, allowing more real estate for the AC adapters. I have a couple of pretty wide AC adapters and they fit just fine onto the fully expanded Socket Sense power strip. It works like a charm.

Some of the nice touches I like is the long cord (6ft) and the plastic packaging. I like the fact that I can open the packaging without using scissor or razor knife. It comes pre-cut (perforated) in the back of the packaging.

Although this power strip comes with wall mount keyhole slots, I’m not if it’s useful since this is an expandable power strip.

Features

Fully Adjustable Sockets

2160 Joules of Surge Protection

Six Foot Power Cord

Power Switch with 15A Breaker

Surge and Ground LEDs

Cable Management Channels

Metal Oxide Varistor Components

Keyholes for Wall Mounting

Limited 5 year warranty against defects

Conclusion

Yes, we see power strips on the market which provide wider gaps in between sockets, but they are either bulky, limited sockets and/or create more tangles. e.g. the PowerSquid Outlet Multiplier
The Socket Sense Power Strip provides unique “expandable” feature and it works as advertised.

The gradual, relentless digitization of everything takes a little longer to seep into the more obscure technological quarters. The latest outmoded gadget to fall? The analog player piano.

Old-style player pianos, which rely on rolls of dimpled paper tablature to cue a piano to play music, have been helping their owners cheat for the better part of two centuries. For 108 years or that, QRS Technologies was a leading manufacturer of the song rolls, the production of which has ceased as of this week.

Analog player pianos had a certain charm. You could watch them deliberately plunk out just about any tune like some kind of outsize music box, and the bare mechanics of the whole affair were as honest as they were tacky. QRS has apparently moved, with some success, to digital player pianos, which rely on servos and disks over braille and gears. The most profound difference, though, is one of identity: Where analog player pianos were a fascinating predecessor to MIDI synthesizers, digital pianos are MIDI synthesizers, something which Bob Berkman, the company's music director, seems to grasps, sadly:

“We’re still doing what we always did, which is to provide software for pianos that play themselves. It’s just the technology that has changed. But I would be lying to say [the halting of production] doesn’t sadden me.”

[Buffalo News]

The exterior, exudes a sort of manly charm with it’s rosewood finish amalgamated into an aluminum-magnesium alloy chassis. The wood has been painted with natural Chinese lacquer without any chemical additives, giving it that natural look.

Under the hood of the Z70, you’ll find an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 processor that should mean decent performance no matter what you are using it for. It’s even water-cooled so that you won’t accidentally burn your precious wooden wonder after hours of high performance.

You have to admit, wood is a nice alternative to tacky crystal exteriors.

That's different.

From the website:

Stylophone Retro Pocket Synthesizer

The Stylophone is a miniature stylus-operated synthesizer invented in 1967 and used by such iconic musicians as David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Erasure.

It features a metal keyboard played by touching it with a stylus.

That's right — over four decades ago with computers the size of a gymnasium and nary a PDA in sight, the Stylophone was a portable electronic music instrument with stylus-based control.

This exact recreation of the original sounds the same as it did in the 60s.

Simply remove the pen and tap any key for classic synth sounds.

There is a switch to add vibrato and you can choose from one of three different retro organ type sounds.

The tuning knob on the bottom allows for some pitch-bend effects if you must.

The Stylophone is one of the simplest electronic instruments you will find, but its minimalist style is a big part of its charm.

Features

Input for MP3 player mixes your music with the Stylophone and outputs everything through the built-in speaker

Tuning knob on bottom allows you tune the Stylophone or do pitch-bend effects

Touch the stylus to the metal keyboard to play the Stylophone like a piano

Miniature stylus operated synthesizer is a recreation of the 1967 classic

Choose from three different retro organ sounds

Requires 3 AA batteries (not included)

Dimensions: 16cm x 9.5cm x 3.5cm

Built-in speaker with volume control

Optional headphone jack

Optional vibrato effect
....................

Perhaps for the more hardcore gamer than the DS, nonetheless the Sony PSP is a great console that provides some fantastic electronic entertainment. Not least this year, out for the PSP is the brilliant sequel LocoRoco 2. This puzzler has a charm that’ll keep you entertained for a couple of weeks and will more than put a smile on your face. The graphics are really nice and whilst the gameplay is simple it proves to be fiendishly addictive.

If you’re after an action based title then look no further than God Of War: Chains of Olympus. Kratos is once again on top form, and you’ll find yourself slicing it up with the best of them in no time. If want something just as fast paced but from a racing point of view, then why not hit up Midnight Club: Remix. It has plenty to like, if a challenging difficulty slant.

Of course, there are some (slightly) older but entertaining titles that are well worth a look, including Everybody’s Golf 2 – which is a great little arcadey game based on the titular sport. I’d like to end this list with two games that come with particular recommendation. R-Type Tactics (as with the other R-Type games there’s more to this than meets the eye). Lastly, there’s Final Fantasy VII – Crisis Core.

I hope in this list that there’s something for everyone and many hours of gameplay for you – whatever type of gamer you are.
