Speedo's new LZR Swimsuit Worries Officials

suit_swim.jpg Officials from the International Swimming Federation (FINA, the sport's governing body) are a worried lot and want to talk to Speedo pronto. With the Olympics round the bend, Speedo's LZR Racer is set to evoke terms like 'unfair advantage' and 'performance enhancing'. Speedo VP Stuart Isaac has this to say, "Yes, the swimmers today have advantages that let them go faster than swimmers ten years ago. However, that's the nature of sport, whether it's tennis rackets or golf clubs or new running shoes or the composition of running tracks. I wouldn't say it cheapens it, but yes, they have an advantage over those in the past. All the people now have access to the same technology, so the best swimmer is still winning." The point however is, that every athlete doesn't have access to this kind of technology. When it comes to the Olympics, some countries have contractual obligations to other manufacturers. The suit was approved by FINA and Speedo knows the rules so I guess we will have to await the outcome of the official meeting. Source
