Sure, there are ringback tones that let your friends listen to a song as they wait for you to pick up the phone. You can choose a particular picture or ringtone to identify your friends' incoming calls. But, how about deciding what your friend sees and hears when you call them? With the new Monikker service, you can choose how you want to identify yourself to your friend. By allowing you to choose the ringtone that your friend's Monikker-enabled mobile phone displays, Monikker puts the power of Caller ID in your hands.
You can customize your ringtone with straight audio, or mix it up with some pictures or even text. As long as you and your friends all use Monikker, you can decide just how much to amuse or annoy your friends every time you call. Ringtones are all server-side, so the days of downloading ringtones are gone.
Monikker is currently in beta and is open to all Symbian OS 8/9 and Windows Mobile. Take a peek at Monikker, and convince your friends to do the same (that's the only way it'll work)- it's definitely an interesting idea. But, if you like control over your ringtones or just don't trust your friends with your phone's ringtones, then you might want to move on.
