Basel is around the corner and the Blogoshphere is already buzzing with loads of pre-Basel 2008 stuff. The latest to crop up today is the Ulysse Nardin Sonata Silicium Limited Edition Watch. Making its mark in the watch industry for using silicon, this timepiece is the latest addition to its limited edition line. Only 300 of it will be made but in choice of 18 karat rose or white gold. The UN-67 self-winding movement incorporates silicon components in the escapement, including the hairspring. Even the striking dial is crafted from the same. The complex self-winding movement offers an innovative 24-hour alarm feature with cathedral gong, a display for a second time zone, and a large date display which may be adjusted in either direction. This big 42mm watch has sapphire crystals on both front and back.
The dial, micro-precision components, exclusive spring, oscillator, anchor and escapement, developed in collaboration with ASRH (Swiss Association for Horological Research), are technical features used in the movement and design of this latest model. Strap it on your wrist with a crocodile strap and an 18K gold deployant clasp.
