Fun Text is to have it's messaging app embedded on a selection of 3UK devices. The result of the deal is that users will have the option to select Fun Text services, alongside SMS and MMS, in the messaging menu of the devices in quesition.
Fun Text essentially allows users to choose from a range of premium content that is preloaded in the app, to generate a "text message" that contains rich media (or in other words an MMS)… Once the message is sent from the app, industry-standard MMS is used to deliver the message to the recipient.
Fun Text has had their service running since last year on the portal, but this deal is the first time an MNO has deployed the app. The application is initially going to be available on the N95, N73, E65, and 6120 (so it's a Symbian app).
Trials apparently show that Fun Text users send 50% more MMS messages than normal users - which bolsters that all-important ARPU. With 3's USB data modems (literally) flying off the shelves, it's a good week to be 3!
