HORRIBLE customer support
If you buy any Magellan product, you better cross your finger hoping that you will never have to contact support or the sales team for their assistance. I bought their Maestro 4040 GPS and they over charged me. I called them numerous times addressing this issue, but they direct me back and forth between sales and support team. Worse thing is, they can not help me directing the call and I have to manually punch in the 1800 number to reach their support and sales team. Anyhow, after several "hours" of frustration of putting me on hold and bypassing all the automated selection, when I finally reach a live person, s/he would simply tell me to wait for a week without even bother to ask me for my case number. After waiting for two weeks, I called again, going through all the process again, they told me to wait for two weeks or the end of billing cycle. I asked to see their supervisor, and they shoved me off, and put me back to the automated machine. This is ridiculous!! This has been happening for the past month or so, and I still have not fix this issue. I have never had such bad customer service before like this.

Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS
Since purchasing the Magellan Maestro 4040, I have been for the most part, extremely pleased with it's performance. It has fast satellite aquisition and does quick routing calulations. I especially like the text to voice feature, which comes in handy for confirming exits and streets you need to travel on. The one thing you do need to do after receiving the unit is update the software from the Magellan website. Even with the upgrade though, the unit sometimes tries to send you out of the way or backwards on route if you go off its planned route when it's trying to get you back on the route it wanted you on rather than accepting the route change right away and reconfiguring, so you need to use common sense when it does this and it will eventually get on course with it's next position calculation. I can be annoying though , and is one problem with the software I hope they fix in the near future. Otherwise, I have found the 4040 to be an excellent value, with good maps, funtions that you would find in more expensive models, and so far accurate and reliable.

Very valuable
Worked perfectly right out of the box. very pleased that it reduces stress of traveling. I got a "proclip" dash mounting which keeps it out of the windshield. Out of the box it is ready for an online software upgrade. I have a mac and the upgrade requires windows. That is the only reason I give four stars rather than five.
