Singapore is set to offer the Apple iPhone 3G for free to customers signing qualified monthly contracts. For those Singaporeans willing to fork over $145 every month, SingTel will give them a free 8GB iPhone 3G. The $145 per month plan gives the customer 1,5000 minutes and 3GB of data. Unfortunately, the cheap iPhones won’t come with Visual Voicemail (likely due to lack of compatible carrier technology) or the iTunes Store.
SingTel customers looking for cheaper monthly rate plans can get the 8GB iPhone 3G for $247, when purchased with a $40 per month rate plan. The cheapest plan gets you 200 wireless minutes and 1GB of data - not too shabby.
But, with no Singapore iTunes store to speak of, Apple has kept the iTunes Store application off the Singaporean iPhone 3G. And, without Visual Voicemail, SingTel customers will just have to revert to the old call-in and check voicemail system.
