Copy and Paste on the iPhone Now Available, No Thanks to Apple

When the Apple iPhone 3G was released, I saw a lot of flak against Apple for the lack of copy and paste functionality. Granted, I saw a lot of flak for many other features of the iPhone 3G including the 3G connection itself, but for some people who consider it a norm to surf the web using their iPhones regularly, the lack of copy and paste could be a big hassle.

Thanks to GeekBrief, we’re acquainted with an open source framework called the OpenClip which lets users copy and paste in between applications. What you copy will be pasted onto a common clipboard (which is visible, and hence, you can read on it directly if you like) before you post it onto the program of your choice. It’ll even retain the formatting of the text you copy. According to source, OpenClip doesn’t violate Apple’s developer agreement. We sure hope so, or else users will be left waiting (in vain?) for the copy and paste function from Apple itself.
