Reader Question: Which Nokia to get?
2008-03-06 10:27:53 by Jayvee in Cellphone9

Sophie from b5media’s Beauty Gizmo asks:

“Hey Nokia Boy, what’s a better phone to get? A Nokia 6120 or a Nokia 5310?”

Nokia 5310??

Sophie currently owns a Nokia N95, which is way better in terms of features compared to both phones. So I figured that she was going for the form factor as both the 5310 and the 6120 boast a very slim real estate that’s very pocketable. As it turns out, her carrier is giving away free phones for I guess, her loyalty plan.

Which phone?

The main difference between the 6120 and the 5310 is that the latter has better audio hardware installed. With Nokia’s new naming nomenclature, anything labeled with the XpressMusic brand is meant to do really good audio playback.

The 6120 is a more conservatively designed phone that boasts HSDPA connectivity. Personally, I don’t really see the true value of HSDPA if your supporting network’s 3G capabilities suck OR you don’t really have a use for downloading huge amounts of data onto such a small phone. Choosing between a phone with HSDPA versus a laptop with WiFi, for instance - I’d always choose the latter.

Thus in terms of the total user value, I’d go for the Nokia 5310. Unless your position requires you to have an conservatively designed phone at the table, the 5310 will suffice. It also supports 3.5mm headphone attachments. This means that you can use the same headphones you connect to your iPod or other music players.
