
I had never thought about concrete as a material for countertops, but when you really think about it, it makes sense. Concrete is a very versatile material; it can be shaped pretty much any way that you want and stained or colored to create awesome effects. The texture can also be varied according to your needs: it can be extremely smooth or very rough. It is durable and reasonably inexpensive as a building material (when compared to the price of other countertop materials). The picture above speaks for itself in terms of what can be accomplished with it.

When you add the cost of painting and installation, the standard laminated wooden countertops will be much cheaper. But with concrete you can get all kinds of effects that are simply not possible with more expensive materials like marble and granite. In the picture below, however, you can see that unpainted concrete can look pretty good too.
