Panasonic Digicam Boats 'Extra Zoom' (?!?)

Panasonic has introduced a new compact digicam in advance of PMA, with fairly modest specs all around. The Lumix DMC-LS80 has an 8-megapixel sensor, 3x zoom, image stabilization, 2.5-inch LCD and power via AA batteries. About the only novelty we can find is an "extra optical zoom" feature, which gives you a an extra jot of focal length (apparently by reducing the effective area of the image sensor, so there may be some trade-off with noise) when you bump resolution down to 3 megapixels.
