Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 - faster than expected

As you may know the SP3 for those who are still using Windows XP (like myself) will be out early next year. Devil Mountain Software was one out of the 15,000 fortunate ones to be given a taster of what it will be like.

Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Coming Soon…

After Craig Barth, Devil Mountain’s chief technology officer tested the new service pack with some routine testing which included seeing how well it would run Office 2007 on a 1 Gb RAM, 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor laptop, it came to conclusion that the new service pack was better than anticipated…

Here’s what was mentioned:

“We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Windows XP SP3 delivers a measurable performance boost to this aging desktop OS,” said Craig Barth, Devil Mountain’s chief technology officer, in a post to a company blog Friday.

“Since SP3 was supposed to be mostly a bug-fix/patch consolidation release, the unexpected speed boost comes as a nice bonus. In fact, XP SP3 is shaping up to be a ‘must-have’ update for the majority of users who are still running Redmond’s not-so-latest and greatest desktop OS,” he added.
